Namukwaya Sheeba, a 12-year-old girl from Namubiru Village, Nama Subcounty, Central Uganda was born with a bilateral lower limb deformity and diagnosed with Left Blount’s disease. Due to her condition, she faced immense challenges in her early years, struggling with mobility and enduring bullying and stigma from her peers. Her inability to walk properly and travel long distances kept her out of school, limiting her opportunities for education and social interaction.

Sheeba’s life took a remarkable turn when she received a free surgical correction for Left Blount’s disease on January 25th, 2024, an intervention made possible through the generous support of NLW and CHIN organizations. The surgery brought renewed hope to her and her mother, Mulungi Sheira, a dedicated single parent who had long wished for her daughter to have a brighter future.
Thanks to the successful operation and post-surgical rehabilitation, Sheeba’s mobility has greatly improved. She can now walk with confidence, free from the pain and limitations that once held her back. With this newfound ability, she has returned to school, re-enrolling in Primary Two, where she is excelling academically and socially. No longer held back by stigma and physical difficulties, Sheeba enjoys learning, making friends, and participating in school activities.
Her mother, Mulungi Sheira, expresses deep gratitude for the life-changing support her daughter received. "I had lost hope, thinking my daughter would never walk properly or go to school like other children. But today, I see her running, smiling, and learning, and my heart is full of joy. I am so thankful to NLW and CHIN for this great gift. May God bless you all for giving my daughter a second chance at life," she shares with tears of happiness.
Sheeba’s teachers and classmates have been amazed by her progress, and she now inspires other children facing similar challenges. The support from NLW and CHIN has truly transformed her life, opening doors that once seemed impossible to reach.
She now dreams of a bright future, full of possibilities, and continues to flourish with determination. "I am so happy to be back in school! I can walk, learn, and play with my friends. Thank you for supporting me," Sheeba joyfully expresses.
Sheeba’s transformation is a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact that timely medical care, community support, and inclusive education can have on a child’s life. From isolation and pain to joy and possibility, Sheeba's journey showcases the resilience of the human spirit and the profound difference that compassion and partnership can make. As she continues to grow, learn, and dream, Sheeba stands as a beacon of hope for many other children facing similar challenges proof that with the right support, every child can thrive.
