The Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary (SSHJM) operate the Children in Need (CHIN) project in Mukono District, Uganda. Established in 2004, the project was created to address the underserved needs of people with disabilities, particularly children. Today, CHIN runs an extensive program throughout Mukono, offering inclusive education, healthcare, livelihoods training, and advocating for human rights.

SSHJM-CHIN is proudly partnering with "Nächstenliebe Weltweit" (NLW), also known as "Love of Neighbor Worldwide" in English. NLW finances development aid projects focusing on children and women in Africa and other regions. Together, NLW and SSHJM-CHIN are dedicated to improving the lives of children with disabilities in Mukono District.
A Success Story: Serimu Blessing

Serimu Blessing, a 2-year-old girl from Kakoola in the Nama sub-county of Mukono District, was born with Congenital Talipes Equinovarus, a condition that delayed her ability to stand and walk independently. Her mother learned about CHIN from a local medical center and first visited on March 23, 2023.
"At CHIN, my daughter was thoroughly assessed, and Plaster of Paris (POP) casting was applied the same day. After six weeks, the casting was removed, and she began physiotherapy. Today, my daughter can stand and has taken her first few steps. I thank God and CHIN for their support," said Serimu's mother.
Through the efforts of SSHJM-CHIN and the support of NLW, children like Serimu are given the opportunity to lead healthier, more independent lives.
